Ousted Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad sentenced to death in absentia

A Syrian court sentenced ousted dictator Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia for war crimes and crimes against humanity, along with his cousin and former security official Atef Najib. Assad fled to Moscow in December 2024 after his regime fell, ending his family's 50-year rule.
